STEP 1: Final Review

Congratulations, you have now completed the OUPV (6 pack) curriculum. The next steps will prepare for the proctored final exam. Please read this entire final review carefully.

The following links below will allow you to access all of the quizzes in the course. If you are having difficulty with any section, use the above menu bar to review that part of the curriculum. It is important to continuously review the material until you test. Remember that you must score a 90% or better to pass the proctored, closed book final Rules of the Road test (Inland and International) and Plotting. You must score a 70% or better to pass all of the other sections of the test. All are open book after, “This includes every section in the Deck General, Safety, Navigation General, and Plotting”.

IMPORTANT: Your plotting exam will have 10 questions, open book, and a 90% passing grade. Some exam questions will be similar to the following questions. You must know the below information in order to pass plotting. An audio review of this info can be found under Plotting, Chart Information audio tape two.

Materials for Test Day

Make sure that you have all needed materials the day of the test.

This includes:

  • Parallel Ruler (provided in your package)
  • Divider (provided in your package)
  • Chart 12354TR Long Island and text material (provided in your package)
  • Calculator (non-programmable)
  • Large Eraser
  • Pencils (mechanical or standard)
  • Paper
  • A copy of a valid photo Id (i.e. driver’s license, Passport, or Twic card)

Hints for Successful Testing:

  • Gather all of the materials to bring to the test the night before.
  • Get a good night’s sleep before the exam.
  • Make sure to eat a good breakfast.
  • Review, Review, Review
  • Be on time and relax.

STEP 2: USCG Paperwork

Completing this course is only part of obtaining your Masters Upgrade license. The last step is completing your paperwork and submitting it to the U.S. Coast Guard. Links to the forms and a check off list to make sure that it is complete can be found by going to the United States Coast Guard website. 

Once you have successfully completed the exams your name is submitted to the USCG NMC and you have one year to complete the application.

STEP 3: Reserve an Exam Date

*Reserve your seat at an approved testing center, and schedule the proctored final exam.

You must master every final review quiz (100%) 
including plotting in pencil the five quiz plots which will be checked by instructors on the exam day prior to the review. Use the included “Progress Sheet” to monitor your review.
